| In situ sketching is an important part of visiting a city or a place. As tourists rush past, I take a breath, take things in, stand still and find a good vantage point. Surprisingly, some of the best vantage points are often unoccupied and quiet. The act of sketching is a way to document my viewing of a streetscape or a building during an attempt to mentally imprint a model. An added benefit is the tertiary action, the tourists, the locals moving about, the sounds and the smells. I try to limit my time at each place to about twenty minutes to allow several sketches each day. Thanks to an important tool, my digital camera, I can heighten the contrast on shade and shadow and pop some linework on a train ride back to our home base or while decompressing late night in our hostel or hotel room. | | |||
